One of the many holiday parties that we attended this last month was for the department of Pharmacology at UCLA. Although I'm not officially a member of the department, my lab is part of Pharm. It's nice since Pharm is by far the richest department. The other departments generally have gatherings in a conference room with some food, drink and background music. Pharm essentially has a ball in a ballroom, where everyone dresses up, there's a DJ and a dance floor and a nice dinner. The bar was literally an ice sculpture. It started dripping later in the night. Here's a picture of me and my date (Jamie) with a girl in my lab who I would say really mentored me over my first two years (Devon).
