Skiing in Beaver Creek

It was an amazing ski vacation for so many reasons. First off, the timing of it all. Going the week after new years ensured that we would have the slopes (and the village) to ourselves, as everyone was back at work from their recent vacations. Then there is the issue of the weather. While it only flurried briefly while we were there and was sunny everyday, they had just gotten dumped with a ton of snow a few days before we arrived and everyone said that this mountain had the best snow of any in the area including Vail. Finally, the nature of the vacation was just that- a vacation. The slogan of the resort is "not exactly roughing it" and it held true. When we arrived, we went to the first floor of the hotel to rent skis (and I got some amazing new ones to try for the weekend), and they transfered everything to the ski valet. Every morning, we would go trade our shoes in for ski boots, skis and poles and step onto the gondola for the day of skiing. We would ski back at the end of the day and trade everything in for our shoes again. We ate luxurious dinners, including one at a lodge mid-mountain that required a sled (driven by motor) to take us there, and finished the weekend with a deep tissue massage in the spa. We are home now, extremely relaxed and feeling like we did a little bit of work (or exercise) too. Unfortunately, my camera broke on new years eve. So I have a few shots from my iphone, but hopefully I will get the photos that everyone else took with their real cameras during the trip.
